The RIP triggered update feature causes RIP to send updates on the configured interface only when there has been an update to the routing database
Theory
The triggered RIP update feature, when configured on an interface, will suppress the sending of periodic RIP update packets. An update packet will be sent only when there has been a change in topography.
Triggered updates reduce the overhead associated with the RIP update process, reducing RIP traffic. Would typically be used on on-demand or serial interfaces.
The update timers on the RIP session receiving the update will not reset its update timer.
Commands
- ip rip triggered (interface) - Enables triggered updates on the configured interface.
