Cisco IOS log messages can also carry the date and time the message was created.

Theory

Cisco IOS log messages are not timestamped by default and must be enabled by command.

Commands

  • service timestamps log uptime (global) -
  • service timestamps log datetime [msec] [localtime] [show-timezone] (global) -

Default Settings

  • Timestamps are not turned on by default.
